Pillow method vs whisper method: which should you use?
The pillow method is written and passive: one line on paper, read slowly, left under your pillow all night. The whisper method is imagined and active: eyes closed, you picture someone and whisper one line to them three times. Pillow takes two minutes and needs paper. Whisper needs nothing but your mind.
The two, side by side
| What it asks of you | Pillow method | Whisper method |
|---|---|---|
| Lines you write a day | 1 lines | No writing |
| How long it runs | Until it lands | Until it lands |
| When you do it | Right before sleep | Any time |
| What you need | Paper and your pillow | Just your mind |
Use the pillow method if
The pillow method is the gentlest practice on this site. Write one affirmation, read it slowly before you sleep, and leave the paper under your pillow. Two minutes, every night.
- You want something you can do half asleep.
- You like having a physical object in it, a piece of paper you can touch.
- You would rather read a line than hold a picture in your head.
- Visualizing does not come easily to you, and forcing it makes you tense.
Use the whisper method if
The whisper method is a short visualization. Eyes closed, you picture the person, walk up to them in your mind, and whisper one short line into their ear, calmly, three times.
- You picture things vividly and want to use that.
- You want a practice you can do anywhere, with nothing in your hands.
- Your intention is about one specific person rather than a situation.
- You want to feel like you are doing something, not leaving a note.
Can you do both?
Common questions
The whisper method is built for it: the whole practice is picturing one person and speaking to them. The pillow method works for anything, a person included, but it is not shaped around one. The whisper method guide has the script examples.
