Can my life path number change?

No. It comes from your birth date, so it is fixed for life. A married name or a new home changes other numbers in numerology, but never this one.

Why do some calculators give me a different number?

Because many of them add every digit of the date in one go. That is a different sum. It agrees most of the time and it cannot produce 33 at all, and it flattens master numbers that the proper method keeps. This page reduces the month, the day and the year separately, which is the method numerologists use.

What is the rarest life path number?

33 by a long way, then 22, then 11. The nine ordinary numbers are spread fairly evenly, and 2 is the least common of those. Rare does not mean better. It means fewer people are working on the same thing you are.

Is a life path number the same as an angel number?

No. Your life path comes from your birth date and stays the same. An angel number is a number you keep seeing, and it changes with whatever keeps catching your eye. Different question, different answer.

What is a life path number?

A life path number is a single number worked out from your birth date, and it describes the road you are on rather than the day you are having. Numerologists read it as the main thread of a life: what you are drawn to, what comes easily, and what keeps asking to be learned. It is the first number anyone works out, and it is the one most other numbers get read against.

How to calculate your life path number, step by step

Reduce each part of the date on its own, add the three results, then reduce that. Stop the moment you land on 11, 22 or 33.

1Take the month. Reduce it to one digit. November is 11, and 11 is a master number, so it stays 11.
2Take the day. Reduce it the same way. The 29th is 2 + 9 = 11, so it stays 11 too.
3Take the full year. 1990 is 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, and 1 + 9 = 10, and 1 + 0 = 1.
4Add your three results together.
5Reduce that total to one digit, unless it is 11, 22 or 33. Those three stop where they are.
6The number you finish on is your life path.

Master numbers 11, 22 and 33

Three numbers are never reduced: 11, 22 and 33. Numerologists call them master numbers and read them as the same theme as 2, 4 and 6, turned all the way up. They are rare. Across every birth date in a lifetime, about one person in fifteen is an 11, one in thirty three is a 22, and fewer than one in a hundred is a 33. If your total lands on one of them, you stop there rather than reducing.

Life path number and tarot birth card: what is the difference?

They start from the same birth date and stop in different places. Your life path reduces all the way down and gives you a number. Your tarot birth card stops at 22 and gives you a picture. The two systems share their numbering, which is why every life path here also names the Major Arcana card that carries the same theme. Reading them together is older than either tool.
